Hi everyone!
Yesterday some friends and I met for a drive through half of Austria (which takes about 7 hours...;-)
Here are some pics:

Unfortunately, I had to leave early because my 318is made trouble :bigcry: . After about 100 km the engine started to rattle and sound like a diesel more and more. A friend meant that something with the valves may be broken so I left my friends and headed back home.
No, the bimmer is checked by the REAL DOCTORS at BMW... hope it recovers soon and (more importantly) without costing me a fortune... :bigcry:

wow Dr. (David), thats too bad, nice pics though thanks for sharing. Hopefully your car just needs a timing chain tensioner. Good Luck. Let us know what happens.
Take care.

wow, nice assortment of cars your friends have. I really like the Benz. Tough break on the car though.

Oh no! Looks like we have the same problem. I am actually hoping mine is only a head gasket... that's how bad it is.
Let us know how it goes.

good lord!
Had a call from BMW today.
Looks like the camchain has to be changed. THis will cost me (at BMW) 1,400 Euros!!! :bigcry:
I ask myself what the point of a camchain is if it has to be replaced just after 110,000 km...
Moreover, 2.5 litres of oil have to be filled up although I had a full service done just 5.000 km ago...
Really, the car has at the moment a little bit fallen in my favour...
cheers

Do you have to take it to the BMW dealer? Isnt there any good independant BMW service shops in Austria?
Strange that the chain needs replacing, mine has 200k on it and its fine. Hmmm. Well good luck, its a shame you are not here as the guys and I would send you in the right direction for repairs.

Yes, there are quite a lot still driving around and you can get a good one for ~ 1,500 Euros. Most of them have done a lot of kms, though...
I learned so far that (used) parts are a hell lot cheaper here. For example, you wouldn't pay more thatn 100,- Euros for a set of headlamps or more than 250,- for a set of good BBS wheels (with caps)...

PS: But mine is not for sale, if you meant that... :) I will drive on without replacing the camchain until I have the money, just as the BMW mechanic suggested... hoping that nothing bad happens... :smokin:
