Ok guys here is our first meet of the year. Be there or we'll make fun of you later. :D
Date: May 15, 2004
Time: 8:00 - 9:00AM
Location: Park Royal Mall 752 Marine Drive, White Spot parking lot.
Route: Map (http://xitemedia.net/media/images/duffy_lake.jpg)
We will meet at the parking lot in front of White Spot between 8:00AM - 9:00AM. We need to meet this early as we want to avoid the traffic and this is an all day event.
There is a gas station right across the street, it is recommended that you start this trip with a full tank of gas.
We will leave Park Royal at 9:00AM precisely and make our way up the Sea to Sky. Keep the speeds in check on this route unless you like giving the police your money. Our first stop will be the Shell station and McDonalds in Pemberton. Here we will regroup and stop for breakfast.
After breakfast we will head out up to Duffy Lake. The hairpins as we start climbing are my favorite part of the trip. This area is quite remote but keep in mind that Tribal Cops can give you a ticket and it is not uncommon to see deer or cattle on the road. A 2500LBS E30 against a 4000LBS cow will seriously ruin your day! After an hour of some intense twisties we will descend into Lillooet for lunch.
After lunch we will turn south along Highway 12. This will be a chance for your car to stretch it legs on some fast open sweepers. Watch for cops tho! Passing through Lytton we will blast through tunnels on our way to Hope.
Hope will be a chance to fill up on gas and get dinner. After dinner we'll head back home along Highway 1.
Everyone keep in mind that the Duffy is a pretty dangerous road and a small miscalculation can result in a very long tumble down a mountain side. Once on the road from Pemberton to Lillooet there is VERY LITTLE room for passing. If you feel that the car in front is holding you up and you wish to pass, put your LEFT turn signal on and WAIT for the car in front to pull to the side. If you are the car in front and someone behind you has their turn signal on, wait till you feel comfortable and allow the person behind you to pass. Never pressure the person in front of you, back off if you want more road.
Maybe I'm being a little paranoid in light of recent events (http://www.bimmerclassics.net/forum/showthread.php?t=116) but the Duffy is not a very forgiving road. Keep your speed in check at all times.
There are 5 SINGLE lane bridges that have to be crossed. Slow down when approaching these bridges to make sure no one is coming the other way.
This trip will be a lot of fun, so lets all make sure we keep everyone safe. Bring your cameras as we'll stop along way for photoshoots. If anyone has a radio I will be on Channel 13, sub-channel 13.
Post below if you can make it.
