My brother bought me the Z4 short shift upgrade, I'm going to install it soon and I know my shifter shaft seal is leaking. Do you need to remove the driveshaft to change the seal. I'm going to attempt to install the short shift with the driveshaft insitu, will it be possible?

If doug got you the z4 2.5 your all good, if he got you the z4 3.0 than the gear selector rod has to be bent becuase the lenth of the shifter under the ball is too long. If you have to bend the rod than you have remove the shiter linkage. The z4 3.0 will be notchy to shift (it's one of the shortest shifters) I would recomend a wieghted shift nob or collar.

That short throw should be awesome. Thee's a procedure on the roadfly board on how to bend the shitfer linkage. Shouldn't be too big a problem.

I had a Z4 kit sitting here when I did my shifter rebuild, and it didn't look that much shorter than the stock one, so I rebuilt the stock one and through it back on. The difference was night and day, even with the stock shifter, and the E36 shift knob I put on.
