Hey,
The cars a 1962 beetle hardtop, sold new in Palo Alto California. Its been in my care for about 7 years, and has gone through numerous changes since. Its gone from bone stocker, to pan scraper. Now its going to become a all out "Show-stopper" build. My goal is to build the beetle that I've always dreamed of owning but never spent the time or money building. The goal is a fun summer driver that will beat up on the odd V-8. Its getting a stroker engine, Porsche fanshroud kit, disc brakes all around, Whiteline suspension and sway bars nice wheels and tires... Lots of detailing, powdercoating and of course some gold cad plating...

Heres "Seabert" as shes affectionatly called before the start of the restoration.

And heres why I tore her apart to begin it.

Finally her current state of body work, the last time I saw her.

Heres some information about about "the hit". It occured on a Volkswagen cruise, which is probably the least likely time you would think your car would be in danger. Talk about irony. I'm now of course a bit nervous about being in the middle or being followed by anyone on such events. I check my rearview mirror lots now since I was stopped at a light when I got plowed into.

Onto the topic about driving the finished beast in the rain. I will probably try to keep it dry for the first bit however if I get stuck out in it, it happens. I certainly won't let it prevent me from having some fun in it. I'm building it to last another 40 years at least. Thats the joys of Cadplating and modern rust preventatives. I look at the way I've been working on it and I know and believe that I'm building it to last longer. I know for certain it will hold together and won't age since I will be taking meticulous care of it.

I can't wait to finish putting it together. And take the one photo of it knowing it was as perfect as I could ever build it. Then I will drive it.. and once I get my first stone chip it will end up doing a big burn out

Damn Kirin... really nice Beetle. The roof rack addition is phenomenal too.

What type of engine? The original VW block bored out? Sounds awesome. I'd really like to see this baby when you're all done with it. I wish I could (well, maybe someday I will) completely strip the 6 down and treat/protect it in such a similar way so that rust and deterioration wasn't such a worry over the next couple of decades in the car's life.

Oh, I've seen that Beetle pop up in pics on the old DOV. I never knew it was yours... SICK, I love the color too. It's a pitty it got hit. Did it have original paint on it? Looked pretty mint.

Hey guys,
Basically I got a "replica" of VW block thats made out of aluminum. Should be damn near indestructable compared to the original magnesium alloy block that the car originally came with. The car has been repainted once in the past and was a "colour-tone" more blue then the original colour.

Sounds interesting. My first car was a 68 that I redid, had alot of fun with that thing, especially in the snow.

Not to threadjack Kirin's thread(as if I'd actually care anyway  ) but if anyone is looking for their very own Beetle, I am selling my mostly completed 68 sunroof. Email or PM me for details on it.

Al's car would be a great stocker to slam together. Or build a big engine for it and enjoy it. For the price you can't go wrong and its a good car...

Some more of my beastie...
