In one post it looks like the car is a dog of a hassle and the other makes it out to be pristine? What gives?

They're 2 different cars.
If you look at wuffer.net, that's just the for sale page. There's pics there of both of them and more.
Nothing to see here...move along

Yeah, different cars... maybe. They're both the same year, both in Langley, both imported from Japan, silver... etc. etc.
Something smells fishy there.
Also, cloth seats in an 850? Was that even available? WTF?

No no... they're legit. I've actually been in contact with the guy re: the AC Schnitzer 850i. Nice retired fella out in Langley. Check out wuffer.net. That's his website.

As for the cloth seats, they are far more common in Europe/Japan than they are over here. Leather over there does not hold the same appeal that it does here, not sure why exactly but I'd be curious to know why.

As someone who's never owned a car with a leather interior, I've always wondered why North Americans are so nuts about them. I guess it must have something to do with snob appeal.
Granted, a nice buff leather interior looks beautiful when a car is brand new, but it wears so poorly. Five years later, even the best cared for driver's seat looks shiny and used-up, a complete mis-match with the rest of the interior and making the whole car look old. I'd rather save a few bucks and opt for cloth or leatherette, both of which keep their looks ten times longer.

I hate with leather the super hot seat in summer and the super cold seat in winter. Guess I'll go alcantara :)

Leather seats can be slippy... I think sporty Euro drivers are more aware of that and prefer cloths for their spirited driving needs. I also find leather to be cold in Winter, sweaty in Summer.

When I bought my Volvo, I didn't want leather, I was quite happy with the standard cloth. They made me a deal on a car with leather, that was too good to pass up. After 34k km, I LOVE leather. So freakin' comfy. When I took mine in for service, they would always give me a car with cloth. The same seats otherwise, but cloth. They were never as nice.
Well cared for leather can look good for a looooooong time. My E28 has 480k km, and despite a couple small tears in the driver's seat, it still looks great. I've seen MANY cloth BMW interiors with miles on them, and they are always faded, ripped, and rotten. Leather is far more durable in the long run, just keep those hides well fed.
Other reason I love leather? It's kinda selfish. I make WAY more money when I sell a leather interior to someone :D

Hey hey hey...... cloth is comfy....leather is classy.....I love my retro grey cloth seats in my 318is, but I like the leather in the E28 M5 as well. On a cold rainy day though the cloth wins overall, plus it doesnt squeek.... :)
