I'm running 10w-40 in my M42. I keep it super clean with changes every 3k kms or so. I can actually notice a difference in the feel and sound of the engine when the oil is fresh!
I've been running this for 4 years.

mobil 1 15W-50 with the 2.5i engine. 5k Kms changes. I find it's used a lot less oil since I switched from dino.

I'm using Motul 10W40, which I change every 3K in the M42. I have over 250K on the engine, and it still isn't burning any oil. Yay Mahle pistons!

I use whatever the dealer or CG puts in... I have no idea what it is ;)

I use left over cooking oil. Seems to work great with the used sock air filter I have. :P
Alex where do you get the mobile1?

10w40 whatever. Anything that's "good" and happens to be lower in price. Usually Pennzoil or Mobil. I know, I know, I should be more particular, but I've changed the oil 4 times in 6k miles (soon to be 5 times once the snow melts) ... Now with things sorted out, I'll probably switch to a high grade blend. But even then, changing before storage, and after storage, it's cost prohibitive for super expensive oil, and I doubt I'll go full synth at this point... not until I've got an extra 0.2L to cool :)

I use Mobil 1 15w30 every 6k. Motoyen if your in canada the best place to get it is at Canadian Tire.

I find the cheapest place to go to is Wal Mart for the 15w50 Mobile 1. At least there I can get 4.4 liters (exactly what my engine requires), for only 25 bucks.!

Hey Sta/\\nford, is this 25 bucks american or cdn? I got my mobile 1 at cdn tire for 37 bucks a gallon.

Anyone have experience with AMSOil ( http://intershop.amsoil.com/cgi-bin/Amsoil.storefront/41a952260717762e271bd1f0e3f006b7/Catalog/1108 ) ?
Im running on 20w50, but I'm changing it for the winter. I'm thinking of going to Mobil 1, but I've heard great things about AMSOil also.

when i first got my m3 i was running petro canada 20w-50, seems crazy but i have been told its one of the best. Lately i have just been using castrol gtx seems to work great, and after the winter i'll be running 20w-50 amsoil race blend, its kinda costly but last forever.
