I believe the asking price for this amazing M5 was 50k last year.

If it was in the 25-30k range, I don't think its insane - objectively speaking, if you had the room and cash for a second car, would you rather have this virtually brand new e28 m5, or some 3-4 year old Z4, e46 330i coupe, or X5?

Amazing car. Buffalo leather is the coolest. However, I would never turbo that engine unless I was racing and had a few spares.

So clean! I really like that leather. Did any e30's come with that leather?

Way too much stuff done and repaired for a 24k car. Rebuilt engine and turbo? No thanks.

I'm surprised that Dinan acutally built a turbo for the early S38 (or on this car - likely an M88)... I've never seen one on a later model M5. It has to be running some serious boost to be making 500 bhp.

Mark it a zero on the reliability scale....

It would have a M88. At almost 300 hp I doubt it would take much boost to get it to 500 hp. Lo-comp M30s easily boost up to high 300, low 400 hp.

However, the Dinan engine management for boosted s38/M88 run notoriously lean and the engines melt in daily driving conditions (aka: when not being lapped around a track with constant air-flow to help cool them off).

If I had this car, I would pull the M88 and sell or re-use after pulling the turbo bits. Then I'd build a rock solid M30 Turbo for it. And ditch those horrible open spoke BBS.

If it were to land in my garage, I'd keep the M88, but ditch the turbo, and I completely agree with Carter about the wheels. Still, anyway one looks at it, I think everyone can agree it has a ton of potential for any buyer...

I'm mainly into originality. Some invisible performance improvements are OK, IMO, but the turbo doesn't do anything for me. In fact, it makes it much less desirable because of the reliability points already mentioned.

There was a US-spec with 54k miles and Dinan suspension (and a few other goodies, plus appropriate 16" basket-weave wheels) advertized on Mye28.com for $35k. It sold in about a week.

Hey,

I saw that US M5 - I can't imagine it selling for the asking price. No doubt a very nice car, but that is some serious money - I'd much rather take this Euro M5 for the same cash - a few changes (wheels, turbo) and you have a much more exclusive, more attractive, more powerful Euro M5 with 1/2 the miles...assuming everything mechanically on the Euro what it should be...(ie - no engine rebuilds for a while!)

I agree, except for the turbo. That's just asking to blow the M88 over and over again. I'm not huge into FI, but from what little I know, high compression and after-market turbo is asking for problems.

The US M5 likely didn't sell for the asking, but I bet it didn't go too much lower. The car and seller were known in the e28 "community" which would ensure the price was not low-balled too much (despite the Mye28 reputation for contributors being a bunch of cheap bastards).

Anyway, since I already have a Euro M5 I'm pretty happy to see the prices go up. :D

Regarding that 54k miles US M5, the seller at Mye28 states...

"I just sold mine for $31.500 and another just sold for $35,000 with 29,000 miles on it. Mine had 54k on the clock."

Damn, I wonder if Canadian E28 M5 black over black cars will ever see some of that "high price" action.....considering there was only 120+ cars for Canada and maybe 40 with black interior.
