I remember that car being for sale a few years ago from the same owner for something like 19,000. I've seen pics. The paint looks good, but the paint on the front spoiler is a little chewed up, one or both (Iforget) of the foglights are cracked, and the drivers side seat is really really worn out. Other than that, I remember it looking pretty decent.

He told me that he had replaced the entire timing chain and tensioner as well.

I would have bought it at the time for the price he's asking now, but I wasnt going to pay 19k at the time, considering I'm not even a huge fan of Henna. Id consider it again if I was in the market right now.

nah, I just saw a lot of pics through e-mail. He was quite a few. He will probably e-mail them too you. I think its a pretty fair price to start from. I believe his odo is in miles as well if I can remember correctly.

California cars are always worth looking at in my opinion. If the dash and interior has survivedd cracking, they are usually pretty mint. Wish I was in the market, but Im going to make the plunge hopefully soon and buy a place.

yah the mileage is at 116,000 which is around 180,000 km. Too much for my likings, but I'll think about it regardless.
14,000 is a great price (for me) if the car is a good example.

yea, it's getting up there. But also keep in mind it sounds like the maintenance has been kept up with, especially if hes going all out and replacing the timing chain.

I found a few of the less revealing pics he has on his website. Can't argue much for 14k though, thats for sure. It is looking pretty good in those pics.

those pictures are actually his car?
It's got a BC Plate on it, but his car is 1989, the link says 88 ?

89 actually seems late for a Henna... It's probably an 88, with a build date in 87

well he emailed me back with some info and pictures. For the price, I really wanna go check it out, bring it back and get it inspected at CG.

As for the exterior, it would look great after getting new fogs, fixing the bumper. The engine is apparently in excellent condition, the seats are worn, but it's not too much to get them recovered in leather.

I already have small parts here and there that I can transfer over, including Euro smileys, euro grille, new shiftknob, short shifter, e36 ebrake handle, leather shifter boots, my cool ebay pedals, new floormats etc :D

I love that colour! Is it the same/similar colour as the E36 M3 that was out on Saturday?

I bet that car would easily cost an extra $10000 to get into... if you were really picky with it.

Doesn't it cost about $1200 to re-upholster the front seats?

depends on the quality of leather I suppose, but i think i can get a full leather upolstery for a little over $1000. Either way, it's a minor detail, and I can leave that until the end.

The color I believe is more 'orangy'.

...my cool ebay pedals... :D

You buy those pedals from Ebay that Mike pointed you to?

Back to topic, I doubt the owner will let you take the car back across the ferry to get it inspected. You'd have to leave him a hefty deposit or something. There's got to be some good BMW shops on the Island. I bought my car from an ex-BMW mechanic on the island, i.e. he must have worked somewhere.

Hey Hiro if you bring it over let me know, I wouldn't mind seeing it. Hennarot is a pretty rare color, some people like it some don't. Beware the Hennarot Conspiracy!

k sounds good.

Anthony, do you wanna come with me to see the white M3 on buysell in the next few days? The seller is in Vancouver.

The hennarot M3 seems like the better buy here though, I might try to go look at it next Tuesday.

If you look at it, definitely confirm the year. Henna was an early 1988 colour only for US models. That means a few possibilities:

1. He's wrong on the year... (maybe purchased new in 1989, but still an 88)
2. It's a non US model... (don't know if Henna continued into 89 anywhere)
3. It's been painted Henna a la the conspiracy
4. It really is a genuine US model 89 with Henna. This seems unlikely to me

I would tend to think #1. If it's genuine, the Henna should command a fair premium on the market once the car is brought up to the condition it deserves.

I agree with Chris. If it is a genuine Henna then it will be worth some $$$ down the road. Hiro ask the guy what the VIN # is.

Is the white one being sold by the guy in North Van?

no, I think he is in Vancouver somewhere. The car is at Nixon right now, he said that I can go look at it. If you wanna tag along with me again sometimes, it'd be aweome. I was thinking of going to see it at around 2PM tomorrow.

I'm more excited about the Henna though. The guy said that he will email me with more pictures and more details (including VIN#).

thanks guys

I have seen that car out and about a few times. Every time I lose my attention to whatever im doing and sit and stare. Beautiful car. I hope it finds a good home.

It wasn't as clean as I hoped and there was some water behind the passengers seat, the engine compartment was oily and various other tell tale signs of no love were apparent like dash and engine compartment covers not in place.

my 2 cents,

The henna one looks nice, I wish I had the cash to buy the sliver one from victoria when it was for sale a winter or two ago. Island cars have a much nicer life than vancouver cars, less little parking dents, stop and go, etc, IMO.
