View Full Version : Tilt Column & Power Windows

2 Things.
Has anyone upgraded or considered upgrading their steering column to a column with tilt? Is this as simple as finding a tilt column at a wrecker? Will I run into problems if my car does not have cruise control and I want to keep it that way?
I am replacing the power window motor in my drivers door. Is there an upgrade or a different motor I can consider to speed these things up?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

nope, unless you go for a total custom designed and built column. There isn't a tilt option for the e30's.
Same for the power window motor. You can probably fabricate up a mount to hold a different motor but it's more a pita then it's worth.

I don't know about the motor, but you can replace the window buttons with E36 ones. It seems to be a pretty common upgrade.

How can BMW not have a tilt option? :screwy:
What kind of luxury car is that?

That sucks :(
My back windows go down twice as fast as my front windows.
Do other cabrio owners have the same problem? If not, maybe new motors will fix it up?

On my car all 4 windows go up and down at the same speed. The motors are noisy though but then again most 14+ year old cars have that problem. I like how power windows on new cars go up and down, silent and smooth.

The reason the e30's didn't have a tilt had to do with crash standards at that time. They couldn't design a tilt mechanism that would pass TUV. Now they can.

MY E24 had window motors that had never been serviced, after which they were much much faster. A little lube was all they needed, not sure if you can do this with an E30.
