Water leaking inside my 1989 e30 318i!

Hey everyone,

We had a bit of rain in my area lately and my poor car had to spend some time in it. Afterwhich i noticed some water under the carpets in the drivers foot well and in the rear drivers side foot well (car was parked nose up on a hill) i am assuming that there is a block in one of the drain channels and it just needs to be unblocked. i have heard that the 'elephant pipe' in the engine bay, on the fire wall near the rocker cover is a common place to block up, so that will be my first check. Just wondering if any one knows of any other areas that are common and prone to clogging?? any help would be appreciated

Cheers

JH

The sunroof drains are prone to clogging, run some water down all four corners of the sunroof opening, youll see a channel in each corner. Make sure they flow out like they should

I think there can also be leaks behind the rear side windows funny piece of exterior trim. You have to pop the trim piece of, remove the gasket, use some type automotive caulking and then put everything back together again.

That's where I'm looking this summer for my leak as I've checked the sunroof drains already. :-(

Let me know if any of those things worked because I have the same exact problem, front drivers side and rear passengers side floors soaked with water.

hey JmsRad23,
My problem ended up being a blocked 'elephant pipe'. took me 2 minutes to remove, clean and replace. The pipe is found in the engine bay, on the firewall next to the rocker cover... should be very easy to locate. Hope this helps.

Cheers
